Navigating the vast landscapes of Iki Island in Ghost of Tsushima introduces players to numerous side quests, but few are as understated as A Helping Hand. This hidden tale follows the journey of a local peasant named Emotaro, who is trying to rebuild his life after losing his house to Mongol forces. Unlike standard quests, this mission does not feature map markers, making it a unique exploration puzzle for dedicated players.
Starting the Quest in the Woods
To begin assisting Emotaro, head to the northeastern woods located just above Tatsu's Ladder on Iki Island. You can spot his location from a distance by looking for a rising plume of white smoke. Upon speaking with him, he will request three pieces of Yew Wood to start constructing his new shelter.
Gathering these building materials allows Jin to directly support the island's local community during difficult times. Once you hand over the requested wood, Emotaro will thank you and move on to another location to gather more resources.
Tracking Down the Second Location
Finding Emotaro a second time requires traveling toward the central fields near Lake Nagata or the grasslands near Kidafure Battleground. Look out for the signature campfire smoke rising above the open terrain to pinpoint his exact resting spot. During this encounter, he asks for six Predator Hides to help insulate his roof against harsh elements.
Hides can easily be acquired by hunting wild animals scattered across the island's wilderness. Delivering these items earns his deep gratitude as he continues preparing his homestead.
Finding the Final Materials at the Beach
The third encounter takes place along the northern shore near Zasho Bay or Yahata Lighthouse. Emotaro can be found foraging near the coastline, searching for metal supplies to complete his home. This time, he will need ten pieces of Iron from your inventory to forge sturdy structural supports.
Iron is readily available at enemy camps or scattered in resource chests throughout Tsushima. Donating these metal pieces completes his resource gathering phase and prompts him to invite Jin to his completed property.
Visiting the Homestead and Claiming Rewards
After supplying all three necessary materials, travel to the grassy clearing located directly west of Fort Sakai. You will find a newly constructed house standing where Emotaro's temporary camp used to be. Speaking with him completes the secret tale and grants Jin the Charm of Iron Grip.
This valuable charm stabilizes your aiming reticle, preventing bow wobble during long-range combat encounters. Completing this quest provides both practical gameplay advantages and a satisfying narrative resolution.
